UNDP, through its Africa Sustainable Finance Hub (ASFH) and SDG Impact, a Sustainable Finance Hub (SFH) flagship initiative to accelerate private sector contributions towards sustainability and the SDGs, along with its partner, Social Value International launched the inaugural SDG Impact Standards Train-the-Trainer Course for Sub-Saharan Africa in Pretoria, South Africa in early October.

Following a competitive selection process, UNDP SDG Impact, a flagship initiative to help the private sector accelerate private capital and activity to the SDGs, has been chosen as one of the 60 projects to showcase its work at the 5th edition of the Paris Peace Forum, 11 to 12 November 2022.

The collaboration comes at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the global health crisis of our generation and exacerbated health system gaps and disparities in the developing world where public funds have been diverted to tackle acute pandemic priorities.

SDG Impact, part of UNDP Sustainable Finance Hub and The World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), have entered into a partnership to leverage each other’s strengths and common goals to spearhead private capital towards the achievement of the SDGs.

As a global community, we are experiencing a multitude of threats, from climate change, a global pandemic and the war in Ukraine. The combination of these crises has ravished government balance sheets, diverted aid budgets and put pressure on our global food, energy and financial systems. UNCDF and UNDP came together to ask two key questions: how can we make sure that our products works for the benefit of those who need them the most; and how can we make sure that investments are more aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) despite the constant changes of the global financial ecosystem? 

Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator addresses Member States at the Second Session of the Executive Board where he discusses the triple crises the global community faces today: Covid-19 Pandemic, Climate Change and Ukraine War. He provides and overview of the efforts that the UNDP has deployed including how to ensure that sustainable finance is delivered. He highlighted how the SDG Impact Standards, independent, global management standards can guide the private sector to integrate the SDGs into their operations.

The African Venture Philanthropy Alliance (AVPA), a Pan-African network of social investors collaborating to mobilise and deploy capital for impact and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through its Africa Sustainable Finance Hub (ASFH) and the flagship initiative SDG Impact, have partnered to promote sustainable finance in Africa. The collaboration will support the African private sector to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union (AU) Agenda 2063.

As an official side event to the Eighth Tokyo International Conference of African Development (TICAD 8), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) together with the African Development Bank (AfDB) organised the "Africa Continental Investor Convening: Partnering for SDG Investments in the Green & Blue Economy in Pursuit of Agenda 2063". The side event took place on 6 September 2022 and spotlighted investment opportunities with the potential to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on the African continent.
